Moving Forward While Looking Back

On December 23rd I sent myself notes for the theme of this newsletter. Yes, you read that correctly. Where has the time gone?

Holidays, a family vacation, insurance trip, a conference, and a funeral have kept me out of the office. I prioritized upcoming trip confirmations and new quotes over creating the newsletter. Sometimes, you just have to work in Quadrant 1 and keep Quadrant 2 for when your head is above water again.

I believe in looking forward and not dwelling on the past. There are exceptions.

love Facebook memories. My paternal grandmother died on December 21, 2020. I posted the lessons she taught me. Many of my family members posted as well. Here are my favorites:

1) Always have cookies.

2) Exercise is important. (Especially when you always have cookies!)

3) It’s okay to have banana splits for breakfast. (This was for the great-grandchildren; quite a blessing for my children to know my grandparents.)

4) Shower caps from hotels make great food covers. (She did this before Glad marketed them.)

I didn’t know it on December 23rd, but there was one more lesson I learned from my grandmother that would show in my rearview mirror as I looked ahead. Volunteer.

I have SO much news to share!

After our family vacation, (Coincidentally during the same time as the Pop Tart Bowl.) we brought home Bus 142 pictured above and below. Yes, it is a deep blue. Not letting perfect be the enemy of good, we bought this bus that was ready for delivery. Do we wrap this bus or paint it red as we look forward? We are taking some time to make this decision. New opportunities may be just around the corner.

American Bus Association Annual Meeting and Marketplace

Danielle, Jeremiah, and I traveled to Philadelphia for this annual conference. As management (and their mom) it is fun to watch them grow in the industry through education, networking, and leadership.

Danielle captured her time at ABA in the below video short.

This bus has a luminator sign – great for announcing your group!

Earlier, I stated that another lesson from my grandmother was to volunteer. I was honored to be recognized with the Patti Lloyd Lifetime Volunteer Award.

Below is the press release from ABA and the video I created expressing my gratitude and challenging everyone of you to find your passion and volunteer, too.

Advocacy is an important part of our civic duty. Elected officials need to hear from us so they know the policy that matters most to us. For tourism, we are an IMPORTANT economic source for the state.

I ended up stranded in Atlanta on a return flight home, so Danielle and Jeremiah attended iTIP’s Legislative Night without me. Pictured below they are with Dave Herrell from Visit Quad Cities.

I do not know how I started getting these emails, but YUM! check out their latest.

It is state tournament time in Iowa! Wrestling begins on Wednesday. Wrestling is my FAVORITE sport. I no longer have a family member to watch, but that did not stop me from going to Districts at Ballard on Saturday. #RollBombers

Good luck to ALL athletes participating at the State level in the upcoming weeks.
